The Challenge for Mid-Market Distributors
WAVE Electronics has been assembled at least as much as it has been grown. Started in Houston in 2002, it was bought by Kingswood Capital Management in 2018 and merged with AVAD, the distributor Kingswood had taken on two years earlier, then absorbed KOA Electronics Distribution of Panorama City, California in September 2024. Sixteen locations now sell surveillance, networking, audio video and automation product to custom integrators and security dealers
One counter, two quite different customers. The integrator wiring a house and the dealer dropping a camera system into a corporate campus buy from the same branch and the same catalogue, and only the second gets handed a security questionnaire by the client's IT department. That dealer generally cannot complete it. Neither can the branch, which is built for same day fulfilment and product knowledge rather than network design. So the question keeps travelling until it reaches someone who can produce a segmentation plan and evidence that it was applied, and the account has a habit of travelling with it. A company that has spent the years since 2018 consolidating the custom integration channel is unusually well placed to close that gap before an integrator closes it for them
CWS is the delivery bench WAVE can hire by the engagement. Work is scoped, staffed and completed under the WAVE name, to one standard, at customer sites across the United States and Canada, with French speaking delivery where Quebec or Canadian federal work demands it. Corova holds the scoping, quoting and project tracking, so a branch can put a services number in front of a dealer while the opportunity is still live
Why This Matters for WAVE Electronics
Two acquisitions in six years bought WAVE reach into the commercial end of the integration channel, which is precisely where the security questions get asked. Reach without an answer just moves the dealer's problem one step upstream. Attaching engineering to the product turns a fulfilment relationship into one the dealer cannot easily replace
