In 2015 Above Security bought Seccuris of Winnipeg. Before that same year was out, Hitachi Systems had bought Above Security. A Montreal firm founded in 1999 spent most of a single year as an acquirer and finished it as a subsidiary, and the naming has not settled since: Hitachi Systems Security in July 2017, a reorganisation into Hitachi Systems Trusted Cyber Management in 2022, and Hitachi Cyber as the market facing name from 2024

The name has changed three times since 2017, which is a hard thing to do to a business whose product is trust. Monitoring carried through all of it, run from security operations centres on the ArkAngel platform the company built in house, and regulated Quebec customers kept buying it. What travels less well is the consulting layer around the monitoring. Assessments and privacy compliance projects get sold locally, in French, by people the customer can meet, and they turn on whether a Quebec buyer believes the team is down the road rather than inside a corporate structure headquartered somewhere else. Each rebrand reopens that question at the moment a proposal is on the table
