Industry Context

The Challenge for Enterprise Resellers

Five owners in under twenty years, ending when The ODP Corporation sold CompuCom to an affiliate of Variant Equity Advisors on December 31, 2021, in a transaction valued at up to $305 million. Before Variant came Safeguard Scientifics, Platinum Equity, Court Square Capital Partners, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Office Depot, which bought the business in 2017. The company itself dates to 1987 and moved from Dallas, Texas to Fort Mill, South Carolina along the way. It absorbed MicroAge Technology Services in 2000, GE Capital Information Technology Solutions in 2004 and the Getronics United States division in 2008

That history carries a cost. Each owner arrives with a different investment horizon, and the capability that suffers first is the one requiring a standing bench of specialists rather than a volume workforce. Device lifecycle management, field support and service desk are priced by the seat and by the ticket. Security engineering is not. CompuCom already holds ISO 27001 and ISO 9001, so buyers assume the security scope is there, and renewals now ask for identity, endpoint detection and cloud posture work sitting alongside the refresh. Hiring that bench against a private equity clock is a hard case to make internally

CWS closes that gap without a hiring cycle. We staff security engagements under the CompuCom name, to a single delivery standard, everywhere the field organisation already reaches in the United States and Canada, and in French when the work sits in Quebec or with a Canadian federal department. Corova is the platform underneath, handling scoping, quoting and project tracking so a security workstream stays visible on the same terms as every other project

Positioned at the Point of Decision

Why This Matters for CompuCom

Ownership changes have repeatedly reset what CompuCom could afford to build. Buying delivery capacity by the engagement takes that out of the calculation, because the bench belongs to CWS while the customer relationship stays with CompuCom. The Canadian footprint is already in place, which is where most American partners hit their first wall
