Alex Webb started the business in a basement in 1992. Incorporation followed in 1996 under the name System Systems Inc., which became SSI Solutions in 1997, F12 Networks in 2009 and simply F12 in 2016. Fifteen acquisitions run through that history, from CPU Technologies in 2006 to Xylotek Solutions and My Blue Umbrella in 2021, Dynamix Solutions in 2022, 365 iT Solutions in 2023 and Amtra Solutions in 2025. Clairvest Group joined as a private equity partner in 2020
Buying a firm takes months. Getting its engineers to work the way yours do takes considerably longer, and F12 has set itself a hard bar. The company holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022, a SOC 2 Type 2 attestation with a public SOC 3 report, CyberSecure Canada certification, and registration under Canada's Controlled Goods Program. Controlled Goods registration carries real weight. It governs who may examine, possess or transfer controlled technical data, and it binds every person on the payroll no matter which deal brought them in. With regional centres in Edmonton and Toronto opened in 2013 and 2017, a Red Deer satellite, and somewhere between 200 and 500 staff, that standard has to hold in several places at once
