GuidePoint holds an unusually heavy set of accreditations for a firm of about a thousand people. FedRAMP 3PAO, PCI QSA and CREST are not marketing badges. Each one is an authorisation to perform assessments that other organisations depend on, which means GuidePoint's own work is periodically audited by the bodies that grant them.

Accreditation of that kind carries an obligation that ordinary consulting does not. A 3PAO cannot subcontract an assessment to whoever is available, because the accreditation attaches to how the work is performed and by whom. That makes the usual answer to a demand spike, bringing in contractors, unavailable for exactly the engagements that spike hardest, since authorisation deadlines and audit dates cluster on the calendar for everyone at once.

CWS takes the work that does not carry those constraints. Remediation after an assessment, ongoing managed detection, the security engineering that follows a finding. That frees GuidePoint's accredited staff for the assessments only they can sign, and keeps the remediation revenue rather than referring it out.
