Industry Context

The Challenge for Mid-Market Resellers

Merlin Ventures raised a debut fund of more than $75 million to back emerging cybersecurity companies, and Merlin Cyber is the affiliate that carries those companies into United States government accounts. The model is unusual. Most federal channel firms resell what already sells. Merlin invests first, vets the technology against government requirements, then builds the route to market and runs a FedRAMP and StateRAMP acceleration program out of McLean, Virginia to shorten the authorization path

One consequence is that Merlin's reputation rides on products with no federal delivery history behind them. An early stage vendor typically has a strong engineering team and no professional services organization, so the first agency deployment has no playbook to draw on and no reference to point at. Identity security modernization and post quantum readiness are not installs. They are programs that run for quarters and touch directories, certificates, applications and the people who own each of them, and the agency expects that work to be led by someone who has done it before. Standardizing a bench around one product line is not an option either, because the portfolio shifts every time the fund writes a check. Every new investment brings a new set of skills to find, and hiring against a portfolio that turns over is a race nobody wins

This is the gap CWS fills. We deliver under the Merlin name, to a single standard, whichever technology is in front of us, with engineers across the United States and Canada and French capability for Quebec and Canadian federal work when a portfolio company's expansion runs that way. Corova handles scoping, quoting and project tracking, so a newly backed vendor can be delivery ready in weeks instead of waiting out a hiring cycle

Positioned at the Point of Decision

Why This Matters for Merlin Cyber

Merlin's edge is finding security technology before the market does. That edge evaporates if the first government deployment goes badly, and it is the deployment, not the product, that decides. Buying delivery capacity protects the thesis the fund is built on
