Industry Context

The Challenge for Mid-Market Resellers

MicroAge traces back to a Byte Shop franchise that Jeff McKeever and Alan Hald opened in Tempe in 1976. That store grew into a franchise network of more than 1,400 locations worldwide, and the company held a place on the Fortune 500 from 1995 to 2001. Chapter 11 came in April 2000 and the subsidiaries went out the door one by one. McKeever regained the name and restarted with about 40 people, most of them from the old business. Two acquisitions have shaped the rebuild since, Semaphore in 2020 and cStor in 2022

A company put back together inherits recognition it then has to keep earning. The cStor deal brought a working cybersecurity and data center practice into a firm whose second life had run mostly on procurement and infrastructure, and CyberPointe managed security services followed in February 2025. Selling detection and response is a different promise from selling equipment, because the obligation renews every day rather than closing on delivery. Twelve consecutive years on CRN's Tech Elite 250 proves the certifications are real. Certifications are not the same thing as an engineer free on the Tuesday a client needs one

CWS closes that distance. Our engineers deliver under the MicroAge brand, to one standard, wherever the client sits in the United States or Canada, and in French when Quebec or Canadian federal work calls for it. Corova takes care of scoping, quoting and project tracking, so a managed security commitment can scale with demand rather than with recruiting. The client sees MicroAge from the first scoping call through to closeout, and the CyberPointe promise holds whatever the week's volume looks like

Why This Matters for MicroAge

The name opens doors a firm of MicroAge's current size would otherwise have to knock on. That advantage only pays if delivery capacity can meet the demand the name creates, and hiring is the slowest available route there. We are the fast one
