Industry Context

The Challenge for Regional Resellers

NetStandard opened in 1996 as an IBM mainframe specialist. Jeff Melcher and Walt Lane now run a firm that works exclusively with small businesses, which is roughly the opposite end of the market from where it began, out of Overland Park, Kansas with a second office in Des Moines and service reaching Topeka, Wichita and Omaha. A SOC 2 Type II attestation, independently audited, sits behind all of it

Serving only small businesses is a deliberate constraint, and it sets the economics. Clients that size cannot fund a standing bench of security specialists, so the engineers NetStandard employs are necessarily generalists covering a wide surface. Then a client's insurer asks for evidence, or a bank customer inherits a vendor questionnaire, and the requirement becomes a formal security assessment with a written methodology and a named assessor. That work is real and it pays. It is also badly matched to a team whose week goes on keeping Microsoft 365 tenants and backups healthy across a service area running from Wichita to Des Moines. Hiring a full time specialist for it would price NetStandard out of the segment it chose on purpose

This is the arrangement CWS exists to provide. Assessment and compliance readiness work goes out under the NetStandard name, staffed by our engineers, run to one delivery standard rather than improvised per client. We cover the US and Canada, in English and in French where Quebec or Canadian federal requirements apply. Corova carries the scoping, the quote and the project record, so the smallest engagement is documented to the same standard as the largest and nothing rests on somebody's memory

Why This Matters for NetStandard

Small businesses do not stay small in their compliance obligations, and the questionnaires arrive whether or not anyone on staff can answer them. Keeping the client and renting the specialist beats hiring an assessor who bills a fortnight a quarter. The SOC 2 attestation already tells buyers NetStandard takes evidence seriously, so the delivery has to match it
