The Challenge for Enterprise Resellers
TELUS bought Vumetric in May 2024, a penetration testing firm that had been running out of Quebec City since 2007 with an ISO 9001 certified process behind it. The purchase was narrow and deliberate, made by a company whose 2025 operating revenues and other income reached $20.5 billion, essentially none of it from penetration tests. Testing now sits alongside advisory, cloud security, network security and cyber defence in the TELUS security portfolio
Testing does not behave like the rest of what TELUS sells. A mobile connection bills every month whether anyone thinks about it. The test itself is a fixed window of one named tester's time, and when that tester is booked, the revenue does not slide to next quarter, it evaporates. Demand arrives in clumps as well, driven by audit dates and board meetings rather than by anything TELUS schedules. Quebec sharpens all of this, because a client in Quebec City expects the report and the debrief in French, and federal work expects cleared people on top of that. Hiring more testers is the obvious answer and also the slow one, since the number of people who can run a credible engagement in two languages is small and every Canadian buyer is bidding on the same names
CWS staffs to that shape instead of working around it. Consultants go out under the TELUS name, held to one delivery standard across Canada and the United States, with French speaking delivery where Quebec or Canadian federal work demands it. Corova handles scoping, quoting and project tracking, so an engagement sold in Vancouver and executed from Quebec City reads as one record instead of a handoff between two teams

Why This Matters for Telus Cybersecurity
Vumetric gave TELUS a method and a certificate. Elasticity was not part of the deal, and a testing practice that turns work away in a busy quarter teaches its clients to phone somebody else next time. CWS absorbs the peaks under the TELUS badge
