The Challenge for Mid-Market Resellers
A Michigan technology consultancy owned by an Alaska Native Corporation is an unusual arrangement. Koniag Inc. acquired Open Systems Technologies in 2012, and the firm, founded in Grand Rapids in 1997 and known as OST for most of its life, took the Vervint name on November 2, 2023. Koniag represents more than 4,500 Alutiiq shareholders from the Kodiak Archipelago. Vervint is its commercial technology business, about 300 people working from Grand Rapids, Detroit and Minneapolis, and it is certified by the NMSDC as a minority business enterprise
Ownership and certification together put Vervint on supplier diversity lists at large enterprises, which pulls work in faster than a firm of that size with three offices can comfortably staff. The rebrand pushed the practice further toward strategy, product design and data, and away from being read as an infrastructure shop. Security did not follow it out the door. DevOps and security remains a named service line, and every digital product built for a healthcare or manufacturing client eventually needs someone accountable for how it is secured and tested. Keeping those people on payroll between projects is expensive, and project shaped demand is precisely the wrong shape to hire against
CWS supplies that capability under the Vervint brand. Engineers work to a single delivery standard whether the client is in Michigan, Minnesota or anywhere else in the United States or Canada, and in French where Quebec or Canadian federal requirements apply. Scoping, quoting and project tracking sit in Corova, so the engagement reads as Vervint's own from the first call to the final report. No subcontractor name appears in front of the client

Why This Matters for Vervint
Supplier diversity credentials open doors that still have to be walked through with real delivery. Vervint's constraint is not demand for security work, it is owning a bench sized for demand that arrives in bursts and then goes quiet for a quarter
